November 05, 2025
We’re honored to announce recent recognition of The Linden, Floodgate, and The Independent by several international award programs that feature renowned architecture, interiors, and furniture design.
Awards in Athens: The Linden and The Independent
Founding Director Brett Rhode traveled to Greece last month to accept two awards from the Chicago Athenaeum's 2025 Future House International Residential Awards. The Future House program champions novel and inventive residential projects worldwide, recognizing the convergence of residential design and architectural vision.
The Linden and The Independent received recognition for Excellence in Design in Mixed-Use Architecture with primary residential use. Both projects are currently featured in an exhibition at the European Centre for Architecture in Athens, on view through November 26th. The ceremony brought together designers and architects from around the world to celebrate award-winning furniture design and architecture.
Since their completion in 2019 and 2024, respectively, The Independent and The Linden have earned consistent international recognition. Both projects are distinguished by luxury finishes inspired by museum-quality design and a strong emphasis on local art and sculpture integrated throughout the spaces. Built Design Awards: Floodgate
Based in Basel, Switzerland, the Built Design Awards honor exemplary contributions to the built environment. This year's program reviewed over 900 submissions from 68 countries, with selections made by a diverse jury of architects, designers, developers, academics, and media representatives.
Floodgate received recognition for residential design, joining an exceptional roster of winning projects from around the globe. The project demonstrates innovative urban design for a dense site, employing varying asymmetrical floor plates within three stacked tiers. This thoughtful configuration responds to unique views while providing optimal sunlight to San Antonio's historic River Walk below.
A standout feature is the integration of a 150-year-old stone flood wall into the River Walk level retail space and patio, preserving the area's historical character. Floodgate has previously earned Honorable Mentions from Architecture Masterprize and DNA Paris Awards.
Later this month, the Built Design Awards will celebrate winning projects from the 2025 program at Elisabethenkirche in Basel—a striking example of adaptive reuse architecture and one of the city's most iconic cultural venues.
