The Chicago Athenaeum and Paris Design Awards Recognize The Independent in austin

August 12, 2021

Rhode Partners’ design for The Independent has been recognized with two new global architecture prizes, The Chicago Athenaeum’s 2021 International Architecture Award and DNA Paris Design Awards’ 2021 Architecture - Big Scale Building Award, gaining the project further international praise. The Chicago Athenaeum’s International Architecture Awards ceremony will take place next month in Athens, where a special exhibition, The City and the World, at The Contemporary Space Athens will feature The Independent through October 6th, 2021. Additionally, The Independent will be acknowledged at the 2021 DNA Paris Design Award gala.

As the tallest multifamily tower west of the Mississippi River, The Independent prioritizes views of the city and spacious interior configurations, while offering 20,000 square feet of amenities. Earlier this year, the tower received the Council on Tall Buildings & Urban Habitat’s 2021 Interior Design Award of Excellence, celebrating the project’s strong integration of a polished material palette with exposed structural supports that enable the building’s multiple cantilevered floors. With its staggered tiers and soaring views, the tower continues to spark conversation as the current tallest building in the city and sets a precedent for future high-rises in the ever-growing Austin skyline.
