The Penny Tops Out in College Station

College Station’s newest premier student housing tower topped out this week, bringing the project one step closer to serving the housing needs of Texas A&M University and its growing student population.

When the project is completed, the 200-ft tower will stand as one of College Station’s tallest. The Penny will accommodate over 600 students across studio, one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom configurations with bed-to-bath parity, including townhomes.

Rhode Partners is the Architect and Interior Designer on The Penny. The project is one of 4 student housing projects the firm has designed adjacent to Texas A&M, with more along the horizon.

Responding directly to the site's shape and zoning, The Penny’s architecture features large red and bronze window panels that move across a dramatically rounded façade in gradients, creating a push-and-pull movement on the tower's exterior. Rhode Partners' design for the interiors gives a nod to Texas A&M's signature shade of maroon, paired with a warm palette of bronze finishes, woven textiles and sculpture, and custom millwork.
